Frequently Asked Questions

FROM MEDICAL DIRECTORS

1. How will you reduce our healthcare costs?

We deliver evidence-based physical therapy directly inside your facility, eliminating most off-site transports, ER visits, and specialist consults for musculoskeletal problems. Facilities typically realize a 25-40 % reduction in orthopedic health care spend within 12 months. Fewer transports also free custody staff and lower overtime costs.

2. Are all your therapists licensed?

Yes. Every clinician holds an active state PT license, BLS certification, and PREA/security training specific to corrections. We also require annual CE in trauma-informed care and maintain full professional liability coverage on every provider.

3. What staffing model do you use?

We customize coverage to population size and acuity. Most sites start with a part-time / PRN schedule (1–3 days per week) and scale to full-time or multi-site rotations as volume grows, ensuring cost-effective coverage without idle hours.

4. Who handles hiring & payroll?

We do. Equipt recruits, vets, onboards, pays, and supervises every therapist—removing HR, credentialing, and scheduling headaches from your team.

5. How quickly can you launch services?

Once the contract is signed, our implementation team completes orientation, EMR access, and security clearances. Most facilities go live in 30-45 days; urgent start-ups can launch sooner if badge processing is fast-tracked.

6. What clinical outcomes do you track?

We measure pain scores, range-of-motion gains, functional mobility, and avoided off-site referrals. Monthly dashboards show trends, and our 2024 data indicate a 70 % average pain-score reduction with 99 % patient-satisfaction.

7. How is documentation handled?

Therapists chart directly in your EHR or a secure, cloud-based EMR we provide. We issue weekly compliance audits and quarterly outcomes reports aligned with NCCHC, ACA, and DOJ standards—ready for any inspection.

8. Does PT inside a jail create security risks?

Our care model was built with custody leadership. Treatment rooms remain secure, no loose contraband enters, and clinicians carry radios. Facilities actually report lower incident rates due to reduced pain-related agitation and increased mobility.

9. What about telehealth?

We blend secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth for follow-ups, triage, and low-risk cases—decreasing in-person traffic while preserving quality. All virtual sessions follow the same documentation and security protocols as on-site care.

10. How do we start a pilot?

Submit our Request a Call form or email info@equiptcare.com. We’ll hold a 30-minute discovery call, draft a customized scope of work, and deliver a pilot proposal—often inside one week.

FROM PHYSICAL THERAPISTS

1. What experience do I need?

We look for at least two years of outpatient orthopaedic or neuro experience—enough to feel confident treating a wide spectrum of musculoskeletal conditions with minimal equipment. Correctional background is not required; you’ll complete our correctional-care onboarding, including security orientation, trauma-informed communication, and PREA awareness.

2. Is this full-time or PRN?

Most roles launch as part-time / PRN (15–20 hrs per week) so you can acclimate to the setting. As caseloads grow, you may add shifts or move into a full-time schedule with benefits—especially when we open additional housing units or adjacent facilities.

3. How safe is the environment?

Treatments occur in secure clinic rooms or designated medical areas with custody officers nearby at all times. Before your first patient, you’ll complete PREA, de-escalation, and site-specific safety drills. Therapists consistently report feeling as safe—or safer—than in typical acute-care settings thanks to strict security protocols.

4. What’s the pay structure?

We pay a premium hourly rate—typically 10-20 % above standard outpatient—plus mileage or travel stipends and separate compensation for documentation time. All hours are W-2 (non-exempt) with direct deposit every two weeks.

5. Do I need my own equipment?

No. Equipt supplies portable plinths, exercise bands, cuffs, and treatment kits. The jail or correctional facility provides a clean clinic room. You only need a laptop or tablet for charting and any personal small tools (goniometer, tape).

6. How does documentation work?

You’ll chart in either the facility’s EMR or our cloud-based system—training and templates included. Notes are streamlined: most clinicians finish in under eight minutes per visit, and you can complete them on-site or remotely the same day.

7. Are there growth opportunities?

Yes. Clinicians can advance to Lead PT, Clinical Educator, or Multi-Site Supervisor roles as we expand statewide. We also fund CEUs in correctional rehab, pain science, and trauma-informed care to keep your skills sharp.

8. What about malpractice coverage?

All employed PTs are covered under Equipt’s comprehensive professional liability policy (occurrence-based), including tail coverage—no additional cost to you.

9. Can new PT school grads apply?

Strong new grads are welcome if they’ve completed at least one ortho rotation and can demonstrate maturity, adaptability, and solid clinical reasoning. A senior Equipt mentor will guide you through your first 90 days.
